The boat had a permanent crew of 5 with "the mast so big that "a man could fit inside". ages ago saltflyboy says: i believe rbl sold her to bruno victor edward nordberg, and purchased her from william strawbridge. the lineage goes like: george m. pynchon 1928-1935 william j. strawbridge1935 (??) rbl 1935-1938/9. Pynchon sails istalena to victory over class m rivals in regatta on sound; istalena is victor over rival yachts pynchon sails his class m boat to victory in title race on long island sound.. 
m boat istalena Istalena was in chicago in very poor condition in the late 1960's and early 1970's. the last known owner was david morrissey. in about 1970 he either had her on a cruise or had sold her to a new owner. she was lying in a marina on city island and was stolen, never to be seen again. a few days after the theft, a boat sank off cape hatteras.. The m boat "patalita", once owned by howard ahmanson also comes to mind. i believe she sank in the late forties. l. francis herreshoff's "istalena" was a sweet boat but was too complicated in her rig for most of those who sailed her to understand.
